Months of campaigning ended with President Obama being re-elected. Exit polls broke down who voted, and one of the biggest factors in the final outcome was Latino voters. Our Iris St. Meran spoke with the president of the Spanish Action League about the big push.

UNITED STATES -- From women to young adults, all sorts of voting blocs showed up in big numbers at the polls on Election Day. One particular group gave President Barack Obama a big boost he needed to return to the White House: Latinos. Some exit polls showed 75 percent of their vote went to him.

Spanish Action League President Maria Revelles said, "It does not surprise me. It was what we were expecting. It was what the Latino community has been working on. Barack Obama was our candidate since the first time."

Some of the deciding issues included the President's proposed immigration reform, his support of the Dream Act, and healthcare reform.

"For a mother with children having a health care program that will cover her family is crucial," said Revelles.

Revelles says it's also crucial for the GOP to pay attention to this group and maybe even change their approach.

"They really need to shift their views on immigration,” Revelles said. “They will really to shift their views on what it means to be on welfare, what does it mean, the size of government."

Revelles also says this election was just the beginning. Latinos are a growing population and their votes will influence future elections.
