JEFFERSON COUNTY, N.Y. -- The lawsuit filed against the owner of Tebb's head shops should be settled within the next few months.
John Tebbetts III is facing a civil suit from the state Attorney General claiming he sold synthetic and other alternative drugs by illegally changing their labels.
Tebbetts was back in court Monday, where he filed paperwork disputing the charges against him. The judge will now review his argument and decide whether he's liable for selling illegal drugs in his stores.
“I think that it was obvious from our investigators visits to the store locations that these were being sold for drug affect and that none of them were labeled appropriately. They didn’t have ingredients listing there were no distributor or manufactures name there were no appropriate warnings,” said Assistant Attorney General Deanna Nelson.
If the judge rules in favor of the Attorney General on the liability issues, there will be a penalty hearing on February 20th to assess how much Tebbetts will have to pay.
