ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Onondaga Central Schools is going high-tech with their security in the wake of the Sandy Hook shootings.

The district is planning to install a visitor management and screening system in all three buildings by the end of the month.

The technology, known as the Raptor V-Soft program, will identify every individual entering a building and check that person's background to make sure they aren't a criminal. It can also put instant notices out to administrators and staff throughout the buildings on their smartphones and i-pads, in case of emergency.

Superintendent Joseph Rotella said, "I think when the Sandy Hook situation and tragedy occurred, you know, it's certainly a wake-up call, and unfortunately these situations are happening far too often."

The superintendent said the cost of the program will be under $700 a year. The new security plans were unveiled at Tuesday night's school board meeting. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
