ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Trenton's Town Supervisor was back in Floyd Town Court Monday evening after pleading not guilty to a sexual assault charge in December.

Mark Scheidelman was arrested back in November after police say he sexually assaulted a young boy. Following the arrest, police say they received more than 20 calls alleging similar crimes.

Even with these accusations against him, Scheidelman says he won't step down from office.

On Monday, the district attorney's office was granted a 60 day adjournment in order to present the case to the grand jury. But Scheidelman's attorney says he doesn't believe they have enough evidence to back up the charge.

"I have some serious reservations as to whether or not he might not even be indicted. I have firm reservations that this man is not guilty of anything he has been charged with," said George Aney, Scheidelman's attorney.

"I was elected by the people and I took an oath of office to be the town supervisor of Trenton and I'm continuing to work every day at that job doing what the people elected me to do and running town government," said Scheidelman.

Scheidelman's attorney says if the case goes to trial, he feels confident that his client will be found not guilty of all charges against him.
