SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Syracuse men's basketball head coach Jim Boeheim took the spotlight off his team's loss at UConn on Wednesday by calling out ESPN reporter Andy Katz after the game, and Boeheim explained his reasoning on Thursday.
Katz tried to ask Boeheim a question during his postgame news conference and the coach responded by denying Katz an answer, calling him an "idiot" and a "disloyal person." During the weekly taping of "Syracuse Sidelines," which airs on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel each Thursday, Boeheim said his comments stemmed from an incident with Katz in late 2011 when the Bernie Fine investigation was making headlines. Boeheim says Katz wanted to ask about the case, Boeheim said he could not respond, and Katz proceeded to ask about it "10 times" in an attempt to get a reaction on camera. Boeheim says he has not granted Katz any interviews since.
