In her second State of the County address, Broome County Executive Debbie Preston laid out an agenda that aims to tackle many issues in the area. YNN's Chris Whalen was there and has the details.

BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -- Taking the podium to applause from the audience inside the Broome County Legislative chamber, Debbie Preston made it clear she has big plans for 2013 and beyond.

"We have a plan and I assure everyone in this room tonight and those across Broome County, that our future will only be limited by the size of our goals and the depths of our dreams," Preston said.

Preston says her top priority is economic development. On her list for 2013 is a multi-million dollar sewage system improvement through the Airport Corridor, breaking ground on the high tech job incubator in Binghamton and expanding small businesses.

Although she did not mention hydrofracking specifically in her speech, the County Executive did highlight her desire to focus on making the county more energy efficient.

"Energy in all of its forms: Conventional, alternative and renewable, presents us with major economic opportunities. We can no longer sit back while other communities in other parts of the country bring in energy related industries and energy related jobs," said Preston.

With so many issues to tackle, Preston acknowledged the work will take a total effort by all workers and lawmakers in the county and even went as far as presenting each legislator with a white rose as a token of her commitment to work together.

"The work that we have ahead of us is far too great for partisan politics, so please accept this peace offering," Preston said.

Afterwards, legislators agreed that more compromise is needed.

"I've been to the County Executive's office and talked with her before, I think it's important to do that and I think the County Executive is quite right in that regard," said legislator Dan D. Reynolds.

"It's a simple word, it's called 'communication.' Easy to say, somewhat difficult to spell, but very hard to perform both at home and at work," said legislator Jerry Marinich.

One of many tools that will be essential to accomplish all of Preston's goals.
