FORT DRUM, N.Y. -- Fort Drum turned its focus to the kids Wednesday night. During a "Junior Brief," children got to learn about deployed soldiers and how to stay connected with their loved ones. They even made greeting cards to send out.

The event's organizers say it's good for kids to understand what their soldier is doing for our country. The kid's agree, it's always nice to find a way to keep in touch with their loved ones.

"That my dad is always safe there and he won't get hurt and stuff and that I always know that he is always there with me all day long," said eight-year-old Jared Spurlock.

"We feel much better when we have an understanding of what our loved one is going through, so this is one way we can take our kids and involve them in the situation so they don't feel left out. It's really about unity," said Amanda Garcia, Mobilization and Deployment Specialist.

This is the first time the First Brigade organized the event for children and expect to continue to program in the future. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
